An aromatic herb, slightly reminiscent of cumin and, as the name suggests, slightly spicy.
It is widely used in Mediterranean cuisine, and in Italy it is added to pasta and pizza and savoury cakes, quiche.
Garden peppercorns should only be added to food at the end of the ripening process, as this is when their flavour is at its most intense. It also acts as a natural preservative in food.
Garden peppercorn is also a component of the classic lamb seasoning, but it also goes well with chicken, fish and pork and adds an interesting peppery flavour. Garden peppercorns are very good in mushroom and tomato dishes. It is also a good herb to add to cheese, lentil and legume dishes.
